The recently postponed Opiate Forum scheduled for Falmouth High School – which has been rescheduled for April 28, 2014 from 7-9 pm – was and is an essential first step in combating this individual, family and community problem. Awareness, and rapidly on its heels acceptance of shared responsibility, will bring forth a commitment that can be galvanized into a course of community action that will produce prodigious results over time.
There is a solution; a solution predicated on a willingness to go to any length to nip this crisis in the bud. An old but never more applicable adage can be the cornerstone of our collective resolve and effort; "It is a wise man who learns from his mistakes, but it is the wiser man who learns from the mistakes of others." In reviewing how the disease of family and community spirit has its origins, we can readily devise the method and means to eventually eliminate that which if left unchecked, will continue to pick off those most vulnerable and at risk. That, incidentally, is all of us.
I anxiously await the shrill clarion call of announcement that a new and even more ambitious forum will be convened post haste.
